چکیده

Thermographic approaches, passive and active, are widely used due to the outstanding advantages that offer in a number of applications and particularly for the assessment of materials. Nonetheless, there are limitations; depending upon the approach used, as well as on the materials thermal, optical and physical properties, proper assessment (detection and/or quantification) is feasible. In this work, different applications, employing thermographic testing, concerning the assessment of various materials are presented. The following applications are included: Through skin sensing development & trials on aircraft materials (Al-2024T3 & CFRP). Assessment of defects under composite patching. Quality assurance and structural evaluation of GRP pipes by using PT. The results of this study show that thermography can be used successfully for the structural integrity assessment of different materials and/or components.

Application of Infrared Thermography in NDT of Plasma-Facing Components for Tokamaks

Plasma-facing components (PFCs), consisting of plasma-facing materials (PFMs) and heat sink, are the first wall facing directly tokamak plasma, subjected to high heat flux (HHF) and bombardment of particles from the high temperature plasma. The exposure to the HHF and particles may damage the structural integrity of PFCs and shorten their service lives significantly if the connection of PFMs to...

Active Infrared Thermography Technique for the Non Destructive Testing of Composite Material

Delamination is one of the most common defects in laminate composite materials. To detect delaminations, different non-destructive test methods such as infrared thermography methods are currently widespread for non-destructive inspection, recommended for evaluating composite materials mostly in the active variant. The principle behind infrared thermography consists in highlighting the relevant ...

Quantitative assessment of aerospace materials by active thermography techniques

The inspection of aerospace materials such as composites, honeycomb structures, ceramics and GLARE has been the subject of many studies in the NonDestructive Testing and Evaluation (NDT&E) community. Active thermography techniques have shown to be an interesting alternative or complementary to other classical NDT&E techniques. Nevertheless, the different techniques perform differently depending...
